Head Coach - Merle Ingersoll 
  • High School Volunteer Coach at Central HS. Assisted coaching team at practices and tournaments. Provided scouting info on opponents and evaluation of Central wrestlers, assisted in practice with demonstrating wrestling technique and moves.

  • Wrestling Club Experience: Developed the Champaign Wrestling Club, a local program/club for wrestlers ages 7–18 years in the IKWF State organization. Coached three (3) State Champs, two (2) State Runner-ups and many state placers. The club provides an equal opportunity to all interested athletes who want to expand their wrestling skills, learn three (3) styles of wrestling, and gain opportunities for competition. Served as Head Coach and club organizer since 1989. The club benefits 60–90 wrestlers per year.

  • National Tournament Experience: Coached wrestlers from ages 10–18 years old in 24 National tournaments held in the north central states (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, and Indiana). Coached 2 National Champs and several qualifers for Fargo National Championships, Northern Plains Championships and Schoolboy Team National Championships.

  • Tournament Organization: Served as the Tournament Director for three (3) high school tournaments:  high school regional competition twice at Central High School, and once at the Big 12 Conference for Centennial HS.

Assistant Coach - Steve Ross 

Coach Ross comes to Central after a sucessful college career after wrestling for Division 1 Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. While there he was a four year starter and a two time NCWA All-American. He also served as a student assistant coach for the Cougars during his fifth year of school.

 

While in college he was a volunteer coach for the Bethalto Bulls Wrestling Club in Bethalto, Illinois. He helped in coaching a number of high school and IKWF state placers and champions while serving on the team.

 

Coach Ross works as a teacher within the district and teaching Science Technology at Edison Middle School.
